Joe Buck calls the Minneapolis Miracle his favorite call of all time

That’s saying quite a bit

Anybody that’s read this site for any length of time knows that yours truly is no big fan of Joe Buck. Yes, I’ve softened a bit on that over the years, but on any given day I can probably name at least four or five NFL play-by-play voices that I would rather listen to.

My personal feelings aside, however, it’s tough to deny that the younger Buck has had his share of memorable calls, both on the baseball and football sides of the ledger. In a recent interview with the Washington Post, he clarified what his favorite call of all time was, and it can be summed up in four words.

Those four words are “Caught,” “Diggs,” “Sideline,” and “Touchdown,” in that order.

Buck was asked what his five favorite calls of all time were, and the Case Keenum to Stefon Diggs “Minneapolis Miracle” was at the top of his list. Here’s what he said about it.

And I think my last one was my most thrilling, which was [Minnesota Vikings wide receiver] Stefon Diggs’s walk-off touchdown against the Saints two years ago in the postseason. Everyone expected if he made that catch, he’d hop out of bounds, but instead he didn’t and he turned around and ran it in for the winning touchdown. We felt the stadium erupt and had one of those definitive moments in football. Usually that stuff happens in baseball.

Again, with as many big moments as Joe Buck has called in multiple sports over his career, for that play to be at the top of the list of his favorite calls of all time is pretty significant.

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will, presumably, be calling Super Bowl LIV, which will be broadcast on FOX. Hopefully our favorite football team will have the opportunity during that game to knock the Minneapolis Miracle off of the top of Buck’s list.

(Hat tip to The Viking Age, who had an acknowledgement of this before we did.)
