WATCH LIVE: HC Jay Gruden and OC Kevin O'Connell speak to the media after Day 1 of minicamp https://t.co/mA864VnHYj
— Washington Redskins (@Redskins) June 4, 2019
Jay Gruden said he talked to Trent Williams. “I want him back in the worst way but there is a business side to it,” Gruden said.
— John Keim (@john_keim) June 4, 2019
Gruden says Alex Smith is “recovering nicely”. Calls it a pretty lengthy process but thinks Smith will be back sooner than people think. Can he throw the football as seen in recent photo? Gruden smiles and cracks: “He can play catch.”
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) June 4, 2019
Gruden said Williams would not be participating even if he had been here. Still recovering from offseason procedure related to cancer.
— John Keim (@john_keim) June 4, 2019
“Trent knows we all want him back. But...there is a business side to pro football, and that’s what he’s about right now.” — Jay Gruden on Trent Williams, who wasn’t at veteran minicamp today. @RapSheet reported earlier that he wants a new deal. #Redskins pic.twitter.com/r4xOmIkyxw

Gruden on Trent Williams after practice: “We’ve been talking to Trent a little bit. He isn’t here. Whatever reason is between he, Eric (Schaffer), Bruce and the front office...his teammates support him. We support him.”
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) June 4, 2019
Assuming it's true that Trent is demanding a trade if he doesn't get the extension he's looking for, he's going to look good in a Pats uniform.
— Robbie Duncan (@RobbieDuncanOL) June 4, 2019
(I don't see the Skins giving him the pay day he wants)

— FGB (@FiftyGutBlog) June 4, 2019
Trent is still one of the top left tackles in the league. He can do things that most other guys just aren’t capable of. However, he’ll be 31 in July and hasn’t played a full 16 game season since 2013. Would imagine Skins want him as a key member to protect Haskins https://t.co/hTiPPANn4P
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) June 4, 2019
KO’C says Haskins has kept up in everything, which is big time for a rookie. He never needs to take a breath. He also hasn’t made the same mistakes twice, which is what O’Connell is looking for most.

Dwayne Haskins showed off his arm – again – but he had an inconsistent day throwing the ball. Perhaps his big mistake was running the ball late in a two-minute situation when the offense had no more timeouts; the clock would have expired. Case Keenum had the best ball of the...

Jay Gruden on Trent Williams' holdout: "We've been talking to Trent a little bit here and there. He's not here, you're right. As far as holding out for whatever reasons, that's between Trent and Eric and Bruce. Hopefully, we'll get it all situated soon and get him back here."
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) June 4, 2019
I'm still taking care of Scherff first before Trent. Trent fights through a ton of injuries every year and still plays at a top level. He deserves an extension but locking Scherff down is priority 1.
— Robbie Duncan (@RobbieDuncanOL) June 4, 2019
I'm almost always on player's side when they hold out for money. In the case of Williams, he's still 6th in AAV and top-10 in cash earnings. He's still great but misses time every season and plays at 80% a lot. Still a star but surprising time to get back in line for elite money.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) June 4, 2019
I also am way more pro-player when it comes to demanding a pay day when a guy is under paid and looking for that first big deal to get money they deserve. When you get BACK in line because other guys have moved past your rate in the years since your payday? A little different.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) June 4, 2019
That said, Trent Williams is an outstanding player. For my money he is one of the three best left tackles in the game when he's healthy. One of best #Redskins of the 2000's. Washington has no depth at the position. He has all the leverage. They have bad tackle options behind him.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) June 4, 2019
Players back for the first time this off-season:
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) June 4, 2019
Paul Richardson
Adrian Peterson
Josh Norman
Players being held out:
Derrius Guice
Jordan Reed
Colt McCoy
Geron Christian
Paul Richardson on the field. Believe this is first time in drills this off-season/since collarbone.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) June 4, 2019
First period of team work. Ryan Anderson is back in. Landon Collins was not in that period, but will presumably be in 7-on-7 later.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) June 4, 2019
Foster (mike) and SDH were the starting linebackers. Nicholson and Everett the safeties. Dunbar is back in opposite Norman at CB.
--The Montez Sweat bandwagon continues to swell. Quinton Dunbar on the electric rookie outside linebacker: "He reminds me of a young Julius Peppers."
— Mark Tyler(Hogs Haven) (@Tiller56) June 4, 2019
Montez Sweat is really going to be a problem for tackles. His burst around the edge is really special. He just has a knack on how to get to the QB.

Case Keenum has had a very nice day, probably his best to date in the sessions we’ve been able to see. Just threw a bomb to Cam Sims
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) June 4, 2019
Woww! Case Keenum to Cam Sims deep in stride ..at least 50 ..maybe 60..BANG! #Redskins
— Chris Russell (@Russellmania621) June 4, 2019
All Trey Quinn does is get open and catch footballs.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) June 4, 2019
The past two seasons in minicamp #Redskins WR coach Ike Hilliard and I have a routine where he tells me the WR’s to watch out for. For instance, he told me about Mo Harris and Cam Sims. Today he told me Trey Quinn will impress in the slot. He even told me to quote him on it.
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) June 4, 2019
Terry McLaurin is another player who has stood out today. The young receivers for the #Redskins have potential. As I write this Cam Sims connects with Case Keenum for a 60 yard TD.
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) June 4, 2019
3. Mostly because of the offensive line issues, Dwayne Haskins really struggled today IMO. A ton of would be sacks. At least 5. Maybe more. Some over-throws in red zone area. Two near INT's. Welcome to the #NFL.
— Chris Russell (@Russellmania621) June 4, 2019
4. #Skins did a ton of read option keep/give looks today as well. https://t.co/eQbSHyRPNL
Gruden says he was impressed with Norman on his first day back. He liked where he was mentally. Of course was not worried physically because of how well Norman takes care of his body.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) June 4, 2019
Josh Norman with the first INT of the day, snatching a Case Keenum pass over the middle that was intended for Cam Sims. As you might imagine, Norman was quite pleased with himself. Haha. #Redskins
— Tarik El-Bashir (@Tarik_ElBashir) June 4, 2019
Josh Norman snatched a ball away from Cam Sims for a pick. Sims has had some good plays today but Norman rotated and was in tight coverage.
— John Keim (@john_keim) June 4, 2019
Gruden. “Alex is recovering nicely. Going to be a lengthy process.”
— George Wallace (@GWallaceWTOP) June 4, 2019
Trent Williams has missed 27% of the Redskins' games over the last three seasons. He's played several other games at less than 100% (which is okay because 80% of him is still a plus player). That said, that's a lot of time to miss before holding out for a new deal, no?
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) June 4, 2019
Woww! Case Keenum to Cam Sims deep in stride ..at least 50 ..maybe 60..BANG! #Redskins

The #Patriots are cutting TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, source said. He’s taking a step away for a month for personal issues and the team will release him as he does that. We’ll see if he comes back to New England or anywhere.

Baseball has long expected Latin American players to learn English. But flipping that, and having American players learn Spanish, is a new, novel concept that's gaining traction. Many believe it's about time: https://t.co/dd6rhv5sqf
