The Bills made a flurry of moves to solidify their depth after their first preseason game

The Buffalo Bills signed offensive lineman Demetrius Rhaney and defensive tackle Roderick Young on Saturday night. The two players were among a group of three that the team signed, as it was previously reported that cornerback Captain Munnerlyn would sign with the Bills, as well.

Rhaney, 27, is a former seventh round pick of the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams in 2014. The 6’2,” 305-pound lineman most recently played in the NFL in 2018, when he was with Washington. He also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017. While he was with the Rams, he played in 32 games, starting 1, between the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He lined up primarily at guard for the Rams, but while playing with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats, he played center, which was his position while playing in college at Tennessee State.

Young, 22, entered the NFL this past spring as an undrafted free agent. He originally signed with Jacksonville, but he suffered an injury during the team’s rookie minicamp. He was waived with an injury designation, having reached a settlement with the club so he could sign with another team. He played in 48 career games in college at North Texas, starting 40 for the C-USA school, totaling 134 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 1 pass breakup, and 1 fumble recovery. At 6’1” and 307 pounds, he profiles as a depth piece as the preseason unfolds.

Rhaney takes the place of guard Nico Siragusa, who was released. Young replaces veteran Robert Thomas, who was placed in injured reserve thanks to a knee injury. Thomas joins E.J. Gaines as a new face on IR, as the oft-injured corner was placed on the injured list thanks to a lingering groin injury.
