The Panthers defensive end was caught driving 90 mph in a 65 mph zone and cited for marijuana possession on his way home from training camp today.
Carolina Panthers defensive end Bryan Cox Jr. was cited for speeding and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia according to a report by ESPN’s David Newton. Cox was caught driving 90 mph in a 65 mph zone near Kings Mountain, N.C. according to the report.

The Panthers are aware of the situation and have made their official statement on the matter, courtesy of Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic:
Statement from the Panthers - “The club is aware that Bryan Cox Jr. was cited by law enforcement today. We are in the process of gathering information and have been in contact with the NFL and Bryan. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Before today, Cox had a good chance to make the 53-man roster after appearing in 10 games and logging 11 tackles in 2018. While this situation doesn’t necessarily mean the end of his tenure in Carolina, it certainly isn’t a good look for him and could be a determining factor in whether or not he makes the team. If Cox is still on the roster when the regular season begins, he’ll be subject to discipline from the league as part of their policy on illegal substances of abuse.
