Dan Quinn on Jamon Brown’s progress as a LG

NFL: Pro Football Hall of Fame Game-Atlanta Falcons vs Denver Broncos Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

We’re looking for clues as to Brown’s status heading into the second preseason game.

Jamon Brown’s big opportunity is here, as we noted recently. James Carpenter was on the rehab field today but is unlikely to suit up this week, we’d wager,

The latest update we have from Quinn comes from last week, where he praised Brown’s work at left guard. Brown and Carpenter are locked in a battle for the starting left guard job, with Chris Lindstrom basically just cruising to a starting right guard role at this point.

“I was pleased seeing Jamon...his movement, his quickness, we moved him over to the left side, and it looked like it finally became comfortable there on the right side,” Quinn said. “I felt the urgency, I saw the strength in the pass protection, I thought that was the best I thought he’s looked at left guard.”

That’s an encouraging sign for Brown, who hasn’t had the best history at left guard in his NFL career. It’s worth noting that he’s still listed as the backup to Carpenter on the team’s depth chart for this week, and with Carpenter getting closer to full health this might be his last opportunity to shine without his primary competition in the game. We’ll see if he can build on his momentum or if Carpenter will return and seize the job, as expected.
