The New York Giants extended their perfect preseason with a Friday night 32-13 win at MetLife Stadium over the Chicago Bears.
With the Bears sitting the majority of their starters, Eli Manning and the Giants offense—sans Saquon Barkley, Evan Engram and Sterling Shepard—got Big Blue out to an early lead that they would never give up.
On a methodical and efficient opening drive, Manning completed all four of his passes for 42 yards and an eight-yard touchdown to wide receiver Bennie Fowler. It was a 10-play, 79-yard drive.
The Bears would answer with a field goal at the end of the first quarter, which also marked the end of Manning’s night. No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones took over under center and while he did lose two fumbles, there were plenty of throws outside of that to be encouraged.
Jones worked with both the first and second-team offensive lines. The Duke product shined as a passer, completing 11-of-14 passes for 161 yards and one touchdown to go along with a 138.4 passer rating. His touchdown pass to T.J. Jones came on a beautiful and perfectly placed touch throw on a fade route to the boundary. It was another strong outing for the rookie quarterback.
Aldrick Rosas added a 47-yard field goal in the second quarter while running back Jonathan Hillman ran in a 10-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Giants defense also got a safety on a bad snap to Bears quarterback Chase Daniels. Kyle Lauletta added a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard pass to tight end Garrett Dickerson to extend the Giants lead to 32-13.
Hillman led the backfield with 16 carries for 56 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Defensively, cornerback Henre’ Toliver led the team with six tackles. Edge rushers Oshane Ximines and Markus Golden added sacks for the Big Blue front seven.
The Giants hit the road in preseason Week 3 with a trip to Paul Brown Stadium taking on the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, Aug. 22.
