Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins had a rough NFL debut, but there’s a chance he may still be the starter come Week 1. Head coach Jay Gruden, per Albert Breer of The MMQB, says Haskins “is still chasing Colt McCoy and Case Keenum, but has time to catch them.” Additionally, Breer shared that Gruden would like to make a decision about the team’s starting quarterback “after the third preseason game — at the latest — to give the starter time to prep for Philly.” During Thursday night’s preseason game against Cleveland, Haskins completed just half his passes and threw two interceptions — one of which was returned for a touchdown. It wasn’t all bad, though. He moved well escaping pressure and connected on some big plays downfield. Even better, he showed maturity responding to his turnover-plagued outing. If Haskins can settle down and make better decisions in the coming weeks, then Gruden will certainly be tempted to let the rookie play. His other options aren’t appetizing, to say the least.

Jay Gruden hints Dwayne Haskins could still be Week 1 starter
