Detroit Lions wide receiver Jermaine Kearse left the team's opening preseason game against the New England Patriots with an injury in the first quarter Thursday. The injury took place on the game’s opening possession.

Kearse appeared to have a leg injury, and the medical staff had to bring out the cart in order to take him back to the locker room. There is still no report of the type and severity of the injury. However, it appeared he was carted off with an aircast on his leg.

The veteran wide receiver signed with the team early in June, hoping to earn a roster spot in Detroit after playing 30 games with the New York Jets over the past two years.

Kearse is set to enter his eighth NFL season, as he spent the first five with the Seattle Seahawks. He was a Super Bowl champion with the Seahawks in 2014.

He started the game at receiver along side Andy Jones, while Brandon Powell played out of the slot with the first team offense.
