Report: Nick Bosa diagnosed with an ankle sprain, may not play entire preseason

Put him in bubble wrap until the season starts. Fine by me

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, San Francisco 49ers first-round pick Nick Bosa was diagnosed with just an ankle sprain. He had an MRI after practice on Wednesday. Expect the team to be cautious with their top pick, meaning you may not see him in the preseason.

I know it may not seem like good news, but this is much better than the alternative. Everyone knows Bosa can play. There is no need in risking any further injury by throwing him out there during meaningless exhibition games. He can get plenty of good work during practice, especially this time next week against during joint practices with the Denver Broncos.

Ankle sprains haven’t been good for the Niners—what team have they been good for? There is no such thing as being too careful with these injuries during the preseason. If you keep messing around on a gimpy ankle, it’ll never fully heal. Keep Bosa healthy, and if he has to start the season on a pitch count, then so be it. He can play his way into shape. Him being on the field when it matters is more important than anything else that could happen during August.
