Social media highlights of Cowboys training camp practice #13: Michael Gallup wows with toe-tapping grab

We have you covered with all of the highlight’s from Tuesday’s practice.

Tuesday’s practice saw the wide receivers, sans Amari Cooper, impress. All of Michael Gallup, Randall Cobb, and Reggie Davis had very solid days while grabbing passes from quarterback Dak Prescott. Even Jason Witten made a one-handed catch on Tuesday!

The biggest highlight of Tuesday’s practice was arguably Michael Gallup’s crazy impressive toe-tapping reception in the back corner of the end zone. The ball was thrown where only the receiver could come up with it, and Gallup was able to do just that, despite some tight coverage from Chidobe Awuzie. Check out the grab here:

It does not get much better than that. Gallup was not only able to come down with the impressive catch, but he was able to do that while also getting BOTH feet down in play! There’s nothing else Awuzie really could have done there, it was just an outstanding play by the second-year wideout.

The Gallup grab was only arguably the best play of the day (if not training camp) because Jourdan Lewis made a helluva play during practice as well. The former Michigan corner has struggled to find his niche in Kris Richard’s secondary, but it is not because he cannot make plays. He made a diving interception on Mike White on Tuesday:

In addition to the interception by Lewis, other members of the secondary showed that they can play impressive coverage as well. Donovan Olumba played this really well:

We mentioned above that Jason Witten hauled in a one-handed grab on Tuesday. Here’s the proof. Witten looks like he wants to show the young guys that he still has it!

A sleeper to make this roster is Reggie Davis, a wide receiver that went undrafted out of Georgia in 2017. Davis has turned heads in Oxnard, and that continued in Tuesday’s practice:

Not to be forgotten, fellow undrafted wideout Jalen Guyton made a really nice play during Tuesday’s practice as well, getting by DB CJ Goodwin here:

That battle for the sixth receiver spot on the roster is very, very intriguing. Each (Davis, Guyton, Jon’Vea Johnson) has a case, but training camp and the preseason games will ultimately determine who comes out on top.

Arm angles are important in today’s day and age thanks to speedy defenses that can close throwing lanes quickly. Dak Prescott was able to change his arm angle and hit Randall Cobb across the middle:

Devin Smith, formerly of the Ohio State Buckeyes and New York Jets, has put together some nice practices as well. Can he be a factor to make the roster?

Rookie Tony Pollard looks like he can be a real player for the Cowboys this season, if week one of the preseason — and his performances throughout training camp — is any indication. Here, the rookie from Memphis was able to put a move and get by Leighton Vander Esch:

Could the fullback become a factor in Kellen Moore’s offense? It is certainly possible, as The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen suggested just a few days ago.

Olawale was used as a receiver out of the backfield on Tuesday, making it look like Nguyen’s prediction has at least some legs to it.

Dak and Kris Richard are two competitive men. They exchanged some friendly fire during the practice in the Oxnard heat.

Two of the young guys competed in the trenches, and the one with more experience came out on top.

Dorance Armstrong has won reps against both Tyron Smith and La’el Collins in training camp, but Collins was not having any of that on Tuesday, winning this rep against the second-year defensive end.

Other news:

Amari Cooper is dealing with a foot injury that has him sidelined from practice. The Pro Bowler worked with resistance cords early in practice.

Jerry Jones had some interesting things to say about whether or not he is worried that Ezekiel Elliott will be with the team for week one or not. Jones told the media that while he is not worried, “I certainly know that we’re in a situation where it could be week 1, or be week 2.

Jerry used a strange analogy to describe how he is handling the Dak, Zeke, and Cooper contracts.

The contracts of all three players could very well still be up in the air when the season rolls around, Jones said.

Jones wants to be able to keep the top talent on the Cowboys in Dallas.
