Trent Williams situation nownat a statement, who flinches? Ain’t this fun, said no one. #redskins
— Chick Hernandez (@MrChickSports) August 31, 2019
keep in mind: there is no official "designated to return". Anyone on IR after final 53 is eligible to return. But you can activate only 2.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 31, 2019
In making 53-man roster, the #Redskins are betting on consistency over flash potential, @CraigHoffman writes. "We'll see if that bet pays off." https://t.co/aejJgQTv0t

Why haven't the Redskins formally announced cuts three hours after deadline? Because they never do things the easy way. Like this is something new.

The Josh Doctson era with the #Redskins is over.
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 31, 2019
Fantastic college tape, but his NFL tape is filled with 'almost', 'so close' and 'not quite'.
I'm not sure why he struggled in the pros.
A real shame the way this first round pick ended up. pic.twitter.com/HwyyOh499V
The #Redskins ending the day with just 2 players remaining from the 2015-16 Scot McCloughan drafts (Brandon Scherff and Matt Ioannidis) is WILD. Lots of different reasons for it. None of them good.
— Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) August 31, 2019
Always remember: roster fluid. So final cuts are just for now. Could be 1-2 changes after today by Wednesday. That’s the key day for anyone on the roster. Heard the phrase “for now” in relation to a couple guys
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 31, 2019
Yes there’s a chance the Redskins will consider [player x] who was released by [fill in team here].
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 31, 2019
The Redskins cut former first-round draft pick Josh Doctson after failing to find a trade partner for the wide receiver, a source told ESPN. https://t.co/6qo1hS2iwT
— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) August 31, 2019
He's staying on NFI. It's basically the same as PUP. Could return week 8 if healthy, but Jay said it might be a redshirt year. https://t.co/EGsCMKFlZ5
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 31, 2019
Trent is on the Reserve/Did Not Report list. He'll stay there until he reports. Doesn't count towards the 53. https://t.co/AtwzpBQ1mp

Here's how the #Redskins WR's will likely stack up on gameday:
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 31, 2019
X: McLaurin
Z: Richardson
Slot: Quinn
Backups, who will both start on ST: Sims (returner), Davis (gunner/kick coverage)
Inactive: Harmon

— Dirt Cousins (@Kirt_Cousins2) August 31, 2019
Telling moment for me came during my 1-on-1 with Jay Gruden in Richmond. I asked about Doctson and Richardson, and Gruden spent the next few minutes gushing over McLaurin. "He’s powerful, he’s smart, and he’s physical. That’s a combination that’s rare." https://t.co/a5Y436FIoa https://t.co/9UQNj7FycB

Was told Thursday that if they bring him back, they'd probably move him to safety. We'll see if that's the case. https://t.co/gd5F6thTQC

Update: Redskins expected to keep RB Shaun Wilson on the 53, per source. Would likely then land on the in-season IR with a chance to return. Flashed as KR before suffering an ankle injury,

— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) August 31, 2019
Thanks for the response. I’ve just never got why if he’s an immediate starter here he was never more than the third or fourth option at OSU. Granted they had a ton of talent like P.Campbell but still. Skins just scare me with anointing guys too quick sometimes.
— Footsteps Falco (@lp304321087) August 31, 2019
You bout to kill it in our offense now tho bro https://t.co/fR05wtqxwz
— Jack gruden (@JGruden3) September 1, 2019
I think Josh Doctson can play in the NFL, but he now has one year to prove it or be gone. Someone will take a chance on him, but he's nobody else's first-rounder so they won't wait for him to produce. Most likely, out of football by 2021 max.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) August 31, 2019
Note irony of one of WRs who made #Redskins’ 53-man roster over Josh Doctson: #Skins took Robert Davis with 2017 sixth-round pick they got from #Texans for trading down a spot in 2016 first round, during which #Skins of course took Doctson.
— Al Galdi (@AlGaldi) September 1, 2019
No reason why Redskins can't go 9-7 if things go well, but bad luck and injuries could turn it into 7-9. See the last two years.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) August 31, 2019
Official terms of now completed trade:
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 31, 2019
Houston receives:
T Laremy Tunsil
WR Kenny Stills
2020 4th round pick
2021 6th round pick
Miami receives:
2020 1st round pick
2021 1st round pick
2021 2nd round pick
T Julien Davenport
CB Johnson Bademosi
Negotiations scene:
— Andrew Brandt (@AndrewBrandt) August 31, 2019
Tunsil agent: “So we were thinking about..”
Texans: “Deal!!”.
End.
Houston was a logical trade spot for Trent Williams. Now...it is not. That's a massive haul for Texans to give up. Stalemate continues for Skins-Williams. https://t.co/5W3rXVL0aL
— Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) August 31, 2019
The Redskins couldn’t have swapped Trent and another play for 2 firsts and a second? Aside Haskins, Sweat and Guice, make that deal.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) August 31, 2019
The Dolphins and Texans just completed a blockbuster trade that will send Laremy Tunsil to Houston.
— Riggo's Rag (@RiggosRag) August 31, 2019
For the #Redskins, this is a missed opportunity. Here's why.https://t.co/O3TKqRt3Be
Re: Miami/Houston trade if Houston hasn’t reached an agreement on an extension with Laremy Tunsil as part of the trade, they have now given him historic leverage. They can’t give up 2 first round picks and a second round pick and let him leave!
— Mike Tannenbaum (@RealTannenbaum) August 31, 2019
No Trent Williams - Houston or New England at this point. This hurts his target leverage to get away from #Redskins. https://t.co/bjMAbpzN4i
— Chris Russell (@Russellmania621) August 31, 2019
Wait until the Texans’ general manager hears about this https://t.co/82u9a0p5Eu
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 31, 2019
Source: The Texans and Seahawks' deal, being finalized now, will land Houston a 2020 third-round pick, plus defensive players. So that'll soften the blow, losing Clowney's on-field impact.
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) August 31, 2019
Trade terms, per sources ...
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) August 31, 2019
Seahawks get: DE Jadeveon Clowney
Texans get: 2020 third-round pick, DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo, LB Jacob Martin
Texans getting fleeced. Still desperate for OL help and now don’t have Clowney to offer the Dolphins for Tunsil. Wonder if they call the #Redskins for Trent https://t.co/HFGHvj2YtH
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) August 31, 2019
Per @RapSheet, Jadeveon Clowney has been training in Florida; in-shape and injury-freehttps://t.co/iLlshNLxKz pic.twitter.com/w0hwrJiPjy
— Around The NFL (@AroundTheNFL) August 31, 2019
Bill O’Brien’s first major act as all-powerful Texans czar is trading away the key player from his only playoff victory, for peanuts on the dollar, because he didn’t plan ahead.
— Gregg Rosenthal (@greggrosenthal) August 31, 2019
So...
— Rivers McCown (@riversmccown) August 31, 2019
The Texans traded away a top-50 NFL player for what they would have gotten after the season when he walked (a third), a guy the Seahawks were going to cut anyway, and 2018 6th Jacob Martin.
Matt MIllenesque work here by BOB, letting hubris keep him from mending fences. https://t.co/8wSnQxqRsS
They’re doing just fine without a GM https://t.co/eCa21Tle28
— Hogs Haven (@HogsHaven) August 31, 2019
2 of the top 5 players on #Seahawks roster (Jadeveon Clowney, Duane Brown) pilfered from #Texans for:
— Chris Wesseling (@ChrisWesseling) August 31, 2019
OG Martinas Rankin
CB Lonnie Johnson
LB Barkevious Mingo
LB Jacob Martin
Third-round pick
So, at its core, the Texans paid two 1st-round picks & a 2nd round pick for Tunsil, and got a 3rd round pick for Clowney.
— billhorgan (@billhorgan2005) September 1, 2019
Yes, I know there were players and other picks, but when they look at the skeleton of these deals, Texans fans have gotta be going nuts! #NoGMrequired
All of Bill O'Brien's vehicles get the TruCoat undercoater. Period.
— Chris Solis (@ChrisSolis) August 31, 2019
If you are a Dolphins player how do you go to the next practice and take your job seriously when the clown-show running the team is basically throwing away the season before it even starts?
— Mark Tyler(Hogs Haven) (@Tiller56) August 31, 2019
Nice work by BOB holding firm for that 6th round pick in 2021.
— Ross Tucker (@RossTuckerNFL) August 31, 2019
Savage. pic.twitter.com/dbZ64yvp9l
If Clowney leaves Seattle after this season, they'll get a compensatory pick, essentially trading two backup linebackers for a year of an elite pass-rusher and moving down a handful of draft slots. Which is a pretty nice trade.
— Aaron Schatz (@FO_ASchatz) August 31, 2019
At some point, the #Texans front office downshifted from " trying to help the team " through "trying to prove who's in charge " to just "hoping to save face." And failed in all three.
— Mike Tanier (@MikeTanier) August 31, 2019
— Javi (@713ToThe281_) August 31, 2019
The disparity between good personnel guys and bad personnel guys might be greater than the disparity between anything else good and anything else bad in the NFL.
— Doug Farrar (@NFL_DougFarrar) August 31, 2019
As part of the impact from the Jadeveon Clowney trade, the #Seahawks are expected to release starting WR Jaron Brown, a cap casualty, source said. They need to fit in Clowney’s tag.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 31, 2019
Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi, the undrafted WR who got a chance with the Browns just months after being homeless, has been waived pic.twitter.com/NnrNtN4F1d
— The MMQB (@theMMQB) August 31, 2019
#Eagles are waiving RB Josh Adams, source says. He ran for 511 yards and 3 TDs last year but it’s a crowded backfield now. Should have interest on the waiver wire.
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) August 31, 2019
The 49ers cutting Jordan Matthews takes off the board the Eagles' 4th round 2020 compensatory pick for Golden Tate.
— Nick Korte (@nickkorte) August 31, 2019
PHI now would need to cut Andrew Sendejo *and* LJ Fort in order to get both 4th rounders back. https://t.co/o93drZbIks
If one more regular 2020 compensatory pick goes off the board, TB's projected net value 7th rounder might make the 32 pick limit.
— Nick Korte (@nickkorte) August 31, 2019
And if two more regular picks go, it'd start supplemental comp picks as if an 8th round of the draft was starting.
That hasn't happened since 2012.
Dolphins have reached an injury settlement with TE Dwayne Allen per source.

The Saints released former #Redskins great Simmie Cobbs
— Mark Phillips (@RedskinsReview) August 31, 2019
The fans that lamented this as a loss we would regret because the Saints would get so much more out of the oh so talented Cobbs should feel pretty silly about now
Some backup QB news: The #Patriots are releasing Brian Hoyer, Tom Brady’s long-time backup, sources say (as @caplannfl reported). Meanwhile, the #Broncos are releasing QB Kevin Hogan, their No. 2. That situation is fluid as they’ll keep looking.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 31, 2019
Saints releasing DT Ziggy Hood, per source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 31, 2019
Chargers’ LT Russell Okung (blood clots) is being left on the reserve/non-football injury list, which means he cannot play for at least the first six weeks of the season, per source. A blow for all involved.

49ers placed RB Jerick McKinnon on season-ending IR with his latest knee issues, per source. McKinnon cannot be brought back this season and is now out for the year.
