Andy Janovich very happy to be staying with the Broncos

Friday was a good day for the Denver Broncos and Andy Janovich as the two agreed to an extension to keep the fullback in Denver through 2022.

Friday was a big day for Andy Janovich as he signed a three-year contract extension that made him the third-highest paid fullback in the NFL. The Denver Broncos get to keep a very reliable and outstanding football player that Broncos Country also adores. It was a win for all sides.

John Elway clearly holds Janovich in high regard and he made sure the team didn’t have to worry about the fullback situation for the foreseeable future.

“Since he was drafted back in 2016, Andy has developed into one of the best fullbacks in the league,” Elway said via the team’s press release. “He’s exactly what you look for in a fullback—tough, reliable and a versatile part of not only the offense but also our special teams. It’s nice to see how Andy’s hard work has paid off, and we look forward to his continued impact on the Broncos.”

When asked about the contract negotiations, Janovich noted that the talks had actually started in training camp. However, the torn pectoral muscle put things on pause as the team played the wait and see game with that. A few months later, Janovich sprung Phillip Lindsay to some big runs and the Broncos finally won a game.

“We tried to work on it before the season, during training camp and all that, then obviously I tore my [pectoral] and kind of stopped for a bit,” Janovich said. “We picked up talks when I started playing again. John [Elway] said, ‘Let’s do it by Friday,’ and I was like, ‘Alright, it works for me.’”

If Janovich had waited, he might have earned a little more as a free agent next March. From his perspective, though, Janovich felt the offer was fair and why be greedy about it.

“I just want to stay here,” Janovich said. “It’s one of the top-5 offers in like the whole league, so I think it would be silly to turn that down trying to be greedy and go to free agency and just get a little bit more.”

In fact, he still drives an old year 2000 pick up truck he calls ‘Old Blue and has no intention of getting rid of it.

And with that you can see how hard it is not to like a guy like Jano.
