It is time for Week 5’s closing game of the week on Monday Night Football. Tonight we have a match up that in recent years would have made us snicker at the lowly teams playing, but this year it’s actually a competitive game. The 2-2 Cleveland Browns are facing off against this season’s surprising success story in the 4-0 San Francisco 49ers.
The Raiders undefeated Bay Area rival 49ers are led by Jimmy Garoppolo, meanwhile the Browns have their own young signal caller in Baker Mayfield. It’s a battle of impressive young QB’s, which is exactly the type of game the NFL loves to highlight in their prime time games.
San Francisco also has the number 2 overall pick to show off to the nation for the first time, and so far Nick Bosa has been everything they hoped he’d be with his pass rushing prowess. The Browns have their own star pass rusher in Myles Garrett so it seems to be a wash between the two stars here as well.
The one area that really sets these two teams apart is the Browns have the superior receiver group led by Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. That is probably the best receiver duo in the NFL, but you’d never have guessed it last week when Beckham got shutdown without a catch for the first 3 quarters against the Ravens.
The Browns will be eager to get Beckham involved early and often after the oddity of last week for him. If the 49ers want to stay undefeated they will likely have to make sure to keep Beckham in check so it’ll be interesting to see if they manage to do that.
