Samson Ebukam’s opportunity couldn’t come at a better time. He highlights this week’s Rams to watch.
The Los Angeles Rams return home to face off against division leader and rival San Francisco 49ers in Week 6 action.
The 3-2 Rams need this win. Not only are the Rams attempting to skirt out of a two-game funk, the LA squad is also trying to enforce its dominance against its Bay Area foe.
So, lets not waste time with niceties and pleasantries. Here are the five Rams players to watch:
Players to Watch
OLB Samson Ebukam
Ram’s pass rusher Samson is a bit of a hot commodity at the moment. The third-year ‘backer is poised to take over one of the EDGE spots after Clay Matthews’ jaw injury. Kinda reason numero uno he is being mentioned on this list. However, another clear reason is the 49ers’ unfortunate (very fortunate for us) situation along their offensive line. They are without both of their starting tackles. The replacement, third-year OL Daniel Brunskill, has been a career practice squad player; and his only playing experience is the eight snaps he has taken part in this season.
It is an ideal situation for Ebukam. He will be able to take advantage of two unsuited lineman.
SS John Johnson
John can do it all for the Rams. He covers well, and plays tough against the run. Against San Francisco, he will be asked to blanket its top target.
QB Jared Goff
Jared is here because of his recent play. In Week 3 versus the Browns, Gof threw two picks and lost a fumble. Week 4 saw him responsible for four turnovers — a fumble and three interceptions. Horrible for a man with $110 million guaranteed.
But then a switch flipped of sorts. Jared looked competent on Thursday Night. He only tossed one touchdown, but threw for 395 yards. His interception resulted from a tipped pass off the hand of his pass catcher. Good, positive signs for LA.
We need this version of Goff to be a complete Rams team.
The Patella Novella. It is a story line that keeps on givin’. It has made us keep an extremely close eye on Todd Gurley’s touches. Each. And. Every. Single. One. So that has been extensive. We were then left keeping tabs on Malcolm Brown and carries and/or lack thereof. That brings us to this year’s third round running back.
Head Coach Sean McVay mentioned he’d be more creative and find a way to include Hendo in the gameplan. Darrell is a speedy, agile back, so he’d definitely bring a skillset that is needed in this offense. All We can do, I guess, is wait ‘n see if McBae truly includes the Memphis-product.
Andrew Whitworth
The niners have one of the best defensive fronts in football. Nick Bosa, DeForest Buckner, Dee Ford, Arik Armstead all posses above average PFF. All can make life a living hell for the Rams’ offensive line, and for Goff.
Enter, Andrew. The O-line as a whole has struggled mightily. Newcomers Joe Noteboom and Brian Allen are still getting their sea-legs. That was expected. The downgrade of Austin Blythe and Rob Havenstein was surprising, however. Dunno if it due to osmosis — the entire line acts as one unit, and with two new pieces it may be a while for it to improve.
Either way, the Rams’ eldest statesman sets the tone for the rest of the line. This would be a good time for Big Whit to get his line, in-line.
