And who will the Vikings play next weekend?
The last game of the 2019 NFL regular season is going to determine a lot of things in the NFC playoff picture, including where the Minnesota Vikings will be traveling on Wild Card weekend.
Tonight’s Sunday Night Football broadcast on NBC features the San Francisco 49ers traveling up the West Coast to take on the Seattle Seahawks. These two teams played a thriller back in Week 10 in San Francisco, with the Seahawks winning 27-24 on a last-second field goal in overtime to hand the Niners their first loss of the year.
Both of these teams are in the playoffs already. The winner of this game will win the NFC West and get a home playoff game. In the case of the Niners, if they win, they’ll lock up the #1 seed in the NFC and home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. If the Seahawks win, they will be the #3 seed in the NFC. The loser of this game will travel to take on the NFC East champions. . .which looks like it will be the Philadelphia Eagles. . .on Wild Card Weekend.
For the Vikings, they’re locked into the #6 spot in the NFC and will travel to play the #3 seed. As we’ve touched on, if the Seahawks win this game, they will win the NFC West and be that #3 seed. If the Niners win, then the #3 seed will go to the New Orleans Saints, which means the Vikings would be headed to the Big Easy next weekend.
So, enjoy the last game of the 2019 NFL regular season, folks. By the time this one is over, we’ll know the Vikings’ playoff opponent for next Saturday or Sunday and when that game will take place.
