Thursday Night Football open thread: Cowboys at Bears

A battle of .500 teams kicks off Week 14.

This week’s edition of Thursday Night Football features two teams sitting at 6-6, but with very different outlooks.

The Dallas Cowboys are leading the floundering NFC East division, a division so poor that Washington, sitting at 3-9, is still technically in the playoff hunt. Despite some promising outings, the Cowboys have lost two straight to the playoff-bound Patriots and Bills. Their offense remains one of the best in the leagues, but their defense has sunk them at times. This will be a good opportunity to rebound against a lackluster Chicago Bears offense.

The Bears are riding high after winning three of their last four games, but it is not all sunshine and rainbows in the Windy City. Those three wins have come against the Detroit Lions — we all know of their struggles — and the New York Giants. Those aren’t exactly good teams. Meanwhile, they do not have the benefit of an easy division. The Packers and Vikings are competitive teams at 9-3 and 8-4, respectively. Chicago will likely have to fight for a Wild Card spot. With one of the 10-2 49ers or Seahawks taking the first spot, Chicago will have to battle the Vikings or Packers, Rams, Eagles, Buccaneers, or Panthers for the final one.

This is a critical battle to determining who will be playing playoff football. Here’s how to watch:
