Conrad signs futures contract

C.J. Conrad, the former University of Kentucky tight end who made a splash with the New York Giants last spring before fading in training camp and preseason and ultimately being cut, is getting another opportunity.

Conrad signed a reserve/futures deal with the Giants on Thursday.

The Giants originally signed Conrad as an undrafted free agent after the 2019 NFL Draft.

He impressed in OTAs and mandatory mini-camp, but was not as productive in training camp or during the preseason. He caught eight passes for 62 yards in the preseason, 7.8 yards per catch.

Conrad was signed to the practice squad, but was cut after only a couple of weeks. He never hooked on with another team during the 2019 season.

Rookie Kaden Smith, acquired via waivers from the San Francisco 49ers, emerged throughout the season in much the way it looked at one point that Conrad might. Conrad, who caught 80 passes during his Kentucky career, now gets another opportunity.
