Video of running back coach Gary Brown discussing an unknown future with his players in Week 17

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Coach Brown sounds like us now way back during the season finale - unsure of the future.

The status of Jason Garrett as the Dallas Cowboys head coach is something that is seemingly still up for debate, and as a result it means that the status of his assistants is unknown as well. Dallas has had some assistants that people have connected to other jobs before (Kris Richard just interviewed for the New York Giants job to that point), so if the team ultimately does hit the reset button with their staff there will be some good coaches looking for new homes.

What’s more is that there will be some good people looking for new homes, and one of them is running backs coach Gary Brown. Cowboys fans got to know Brown a little bit when the 2017 Cowboys were featured on Amazon’s All or Nothing and another moment caught on camera recently exemplifies just how much he loves his players.

Brown was caught during the mothership’s “Sounds from the Sidelines” series that they do (it’s a video package with sounds from every game) talking to Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, and Jamize Olawale. He explains to his players that he doesn’t know what the future holds, that his contract is up, and that whatever happens they made him a better person and he’ll do anything that he can for them.

Gary Brown has been the Cowboys running backs coach for a long time now and has conjured up some elite performances from the backfield. Sure, you can attribute a lot of that to the talent of his ball-carriers and the offensive linemen blocking for them, but he also deserves his share of the credit.

It remains to be seen what will happen to Brown and others, NFL Network’s Jane Slater dropped an interesting tweet connecting Gary to the Giants, but hopefully they’re all taken care of and experience success wherever they go.
