Another Cowboys fan that’s a top NFL draft prospect.
Death, taxes, and players wanting to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
Every year there are players that grew up rooting for America’s Team that want to play for the organization when they have the chance. It happens when you’re a brand as large as the Cowboys. This effect doesn’t show up as much in free agency for whatever reason, but it often trickles out when players are entering the NFL Draft. It’s almost as if mentioning the Cowboys is a way to shine attention on themselves.
Three years ago both Myles Garrett and Deshaun Watson (to a lesser degree) made pleas for the Cowboys to find a way to put them on their team. This year there is another star quarterback who’s mentioning the Cowboys, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.
NFL Network aired an interview with Tua on Thursday night and in it the quarterback noted that his favorite team is in fact the Cowboys. You can watch the clip below.
“If you’re saying to me if I could choose what team I want to play on, as far as my favorite team growing up, then I would probably tell you the Cowboys.”
Obviously the Cowboys aren’t going to be drafting Tua because they have a quarterback. Kind of.
There will undoubtedly be people that scream for the team to find a way to move on from Dak Prescott in an effort to go and get the signal-caller that many had cemented as the first overall pick in 2020 a year ago, but that simply isn’t practical.
Tua is projected to be a top five pick and even if the Cowboys did move on from Dak Prescott (they won’t) then it would take an absurd amount of capital to climb up high enough in the draft to not only select Tagovailoa but to pry him from someone else that does want him, say the Miami Dolphins or Detroit Lions.
