If the Broncos can overcome the weakness of winning close games, it will ease the strain on the other problem areas. It will also make Denver a playoff team.
Good morning, Broncos Country!
This isn’t breaking news, but every team has a weakness.
Some have multiple weaknesses.
The great teams find ways to make up for those issues, regardless of what they are or how major. So when Benjamin Allbright asked me recently what the Denver Broncos biggest issue is, I didn’t go with the offensive line, namely the tackle position, or the depth in the secondary. The biggest issue for the 2020 Broncos is learning how to win close games again.
There’s no doubt excitement and hope in Broncos Country is back; especially on offense with Drew Lock and his assortment of toys. Yes, there are questions at both tackle positions and depth at secondary. Some still view interior linebacker as an issue.
But as Adam Malnati and I talked about on the MHR Radio Podcast, the great teams find ways to mask them.
Can the Broncos take the next step by winning the close games they lost in 2019 (four of them)?
Can they take the next step by winning a game or two they aren’t expected to win?
Can Denver finally beat the Kansas City Chiefs, for the first time since Week Two of the 2015 regular season?
If the Broncos can overcome the weakness of winning close games, it will ease the strain on the other problem areas. It will also make Denver a playoff team.
