With Dwelley and Reed out, the 49ers add depth at tight end

The San Francisco 49ers signed former Colts tight end Erik Swoope after working out with the team on Monday, per Ian Rapoport. Swoope, a former basketball player at Miami, caught three touchdowns with Indianapolis in 2018. George Kittle sat out a good portion of the team drills during practice on Sunday, which forced sixth-round draft pick, Charlie Woerner, to take the majority of snaps. Signing Swoope will give the 49ers another body during the remainder of training camp.

Swoope spent the first four seasons of his career with the Colts after being undrafted in 2014. He has 23 receptions for 384 yards and four touchdowns in his career. He’s started six games and appeared in 24. Of those 23 receptions, 17 of those went for first downs. Swoope was on the Colts practice squad as recently as 2018. Swoope signed with the Raiders during the offseason of 2019, but he never appeared in a regular-season game. He also had a brief stint in New Orleans during 2018.

Swoope played college basketball, not football at the University of Miami. Swoope ran in the low 4.6’s at his Pro Day in 2014 and had a 35-inch vertical.
