Don't understand how anyone can read Dan Snyder's statement from yesterday, calling the Wash. Post story a "hit job", and expect the investigation he commissioned to be truly independent. The appearance of a conflict of interest alone should be enough for the NFL to take over. https://t.co/PJu8uQxQnb

Ron Rivera on the mic. Explains the team canceled practice and instead held a meeting to give players a chance to speak out following the shooting in Wisconsin.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) August 27, 2020
Said he thought the meeting went very well. Candid comments. Some anger and disappointment about society's future.
Players, coaches, team prez Jason Wright, owner Dan Snyder and members of the football staff met for about an hour and a half inside the bubble today to have an open conversation about Jacob Blake's death and racial injustice in the U.S. https://t.co/DyR14TpSbG

It shouldn’t take an innocent life for us to speak on issues. We have to do better as people

I feel too often that people think justice, equality & safety is just a race issue when it’s not. Until everyone regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, etc are treated the same. No one will be

Players shared their experiences. It was highly emotional. More then many thought it would be. And while Coach already has the respect of the team, it’s on a different level now. He is a clear leader and there for his guys. @WashingtonNFL

Ron Rivera says the NBA protest, and the statement by Doc Rivers, inspired him. pic.twitter.com/mdsKdtNzTV

He's had to answer questions about sexual harassment and misconduct, major social justice issues, his own cancer diagnosis and so much more. The guy defines integrity. Starting to think his impact away from the field could be greater than on it https://t.co/NxAKtvWeJq

NFL and NFLPA say in statement: “While our passions continue to run high, we are proud that our players and clubs, League and Union, are taking time to have the difficult conversations about these issues that affect the Black community and other communities of color in America."

Ron Rivera talked about the impact @E_Reid35 had on him in Carolina and ... just read this. It's tremendous: pic.twitter.com/6q4hBWBueZ

Most telling from Ron was him twice distancing himself & the team from Dan’s statement. The same Ron who has repeatedly said “Mr. Snyder” & referenced including Dan in decisions said, “Ok, you just said that was Dan Snyder’s statement? Then that’s where the statement came from.”

Perhaps the most interesting thing Ron Rivera said - there was a time when sports and politics didnt mix, but that's over now.

Ron Rivera said he challenged the players to find one specific cause the team can make its own, and pledged the organization's support. pic.twitter.com/54txaGTrvR

Coach Ron Rivera said that players want to keep this conversation going and see something come of this. "We have an expression, when the water is boiling, don't turn off the heat."
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 27, 2020
Asked about these dueling and conflicting statements, Rivera differentiated as one was personal and was from the team. https://t.co/mMoSfQWTTz
