Broncos set to lose big money with no fans in attendance

NFL: Detroit Lions at Denver Broncos Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos do hope to start having fans in a limited capacity by their second home game, but that could easily change.

The Denver Broncos have already announced there would be no fans in their Week 1 Monday Night Football matchup against the Tennessee Titans. This due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

While no further announcements have been made, there is a strong possibility of there being other games without fans in attendance or with 20% capacity. So how will that impact the bottom line for the Broncos in 2020? Quite significantly, actually.

Ticket Sales

TicketIQ estimates that the financial losses for the Broncos would be massive in the secondary market. They would stand lose over $491 million in ticket sales if there were no fans in the stands for all eight home games in 2020. That is the second highest in the NFL behind only the Las Vegas Raiders.

Concessions

One agency calculated the potential concession losses for the Broncos if they were to forego fans for the season. While they ranked 19th out of all NFL teams on the financial losses from concessions, they still figure to lose upwards of $750,000 per game if the stands were at 20% capacity and a full $930,000 or more per game with no fans in attendance.
