Cameron Smith undergoes successful open heart surgery

NFL: Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports

Very good news, indeed

Some very good news coming out of Minnesota Vikings camp on Tuesday, as linebacker Cameron Smith had successful open heart surgery to repair the heart issue that was discovered as a part of his COVID-19 testing at the start of this year’s Training Camp.

Smith posted a picture on his Instagram page to let everyone know things went well.

The caption reads:

Surgery was a success! I’m feeling tood and ready to start this journey back on to the field. #openheart #BAVSURGERY #minorsetback #majorcomeback

Smith will now undergo a 12-week rehab program which will keep him in Philadelphia for 12 weeks. After that, however, he has declared a desire to come back to the Twin Cities and help his teammates in any way he can, according to coach Mike Zimmer.

“He’ll come to meetings, he’ll draw [play] cards, he’ll help with the scout team, anything,” Zimmer said. “We’re hopeful he comes back and he’s able to play football, but more importantly, he looks like he’s going to be great in health.”

Wonderful news about Cameron Smith today, folks. He’s got a long road ahead of him, but there’s little doubt that he’s going to conquer it.
