The annual calendar date to honor San Francisco 49ers legend Dwight Clark and his jersey number, the 49ers Family celebrates Clark’s legacy and his actions both on and off the field. “I think the first time any of us were really aware of George,” Woods says, “was when his letter of intent came across on the fax machine.”
Woods is exaggerating, but just a little. He and the rest of the staff knew George Kittle’s name, knew his dad had played at Iowa back when Kirk Ferentz was a young Hawkeyes assistant, knew George had spent much of his childhood in the state before moving to Oklahoma. What they didn’t know was whether he was worthy of one of the school’s precious few scholarships.
If anything, Woods says, “We were thinking maybe he’d potentially be a walk-on.”
49ers have players lifting weights outdoors, in individual tents
Santa Clara officials expressed skepticism for much of the offseason about whether the 49ers would be able to play safely this year, but last month local authorities gave the 49ers the go-ahead to open training camp, saying they were satisfied with the team’s safety protocols. Some of those protocols have now been put on display.
The 49ers posted on Instagram videos of players lifting weights outdoors, in individual tents that keep them separated from their teammates.
There’s evidence that the coronavirus does not spread as much outdoors as indoors, and that cloth barriers (like masks or the tents the 49ers are using) are helpful in keeping respiratory droplets from one person from infecting another person. The 49ers’ approach appears wise.

“You speak to anybody that’s in this locker room, and they’ll tell you the same thing. We have some unfinished business,” Mostert continued. “Everyone calls it the revenge tour, but to us, it is a little bit of revenge, but at the same time, it doesn’t matter if the Chiefs make it, if the Ravens, if anyone else. It’s one of those things where we’re going to play our game, and we’re going to do our best because that’s all we know.”

Frank Gore hasn’t been shy about his bromance with Joe Staley. The current New York Jets running back took his love of the former 49ers left tackle to a new level Thursday on Twitter.
Gore made it clear he believes he and Staley are the greatest running back-offensive tackle duo in NFL history. He certainly has a case, too.

49ers’ Nick Bosa says he’s moved on from critical Super Bowl non-call, using loss as motivation
“I don’t like thinking about that game very much. I have gone back and watched up until the fourth quarter,” Bosa said Thursday on a video call with reporters. “Was I held? It’s pretty … it comes down to the opinion of a human being and that’s what refs are. “If they think it’s holding, it’s holding. It could have been, it could not have been. It’s what he thinks. … I’m not going to say that’s the reason we lost the game. I’m not going to blame the ref by any means,” Bosa added. “It’s definitely good motivation. You get there and you’re seven minutes away and a nightmare of a situation happens.”
