Jets release Quincy Enunwa, waive Trenton Cannon

The Jets announced several roster moves on Monday afternoon. The most notable was the release of wide receiver Quincy Enunwa.

Enunwa, a sixth round pick in 2014, looked like an ascending player his first three years in the league. The high point was his 2016 season when he caught 58 passes for 857 yards. It was all downhill from that point, however. Enunwa played only 12 games over the last three years due to health, suffering two serious neck injuries along the way.

He signed a contract extension after the 2018 season, which now looks like an all-time bad value deal.

According to Over the Cap, Enunwa will cost the Jets $11.8 million in dead money this season. That’s the price of a poorly structured contract.

Among the other roster moves, waiving Cannon stands out. He was a sixth round pick in 2018. Although he had speed and flashed a few times on special teams, he wasn’t able to carve out much of a role for the Jets.
