Minnesota Vikings News and Links: August 29th and 30th, 2020

Minnesota Vikings vs Green Bay Packers

Weekend Open Thread

Good Morning!

I’m in Geogia this weekend working on footplots, fixing stands and trying not to get snakebit. I’ll be posting some limited pictures on my Twitter account if you’re interested, but I’m not sure why anyone would be. I don’t have a very good internet connection so I’m working off the connection on my phone to my laptop, and it’s about as bad as hotel wifi. There are more suggestions of the Minnesota Vikings organization commenting on social justice issues linked below, if that causes you to clutch your pearls maybe try not to comment on it....or go ahead and comment, I’m not your supervisor. Meanwhile we’ll carry on with our news and links full of crockpot recipes, nap strategies and beer recommendations; drop by for some fan wisdom, snark and it’s the weekend, get the smoker started, get all your outdoor chores done early, and have a beer or two, it’s going to be a great weekend!

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Chris ponders: Are we already underselling the Vikings’ cornerbacks? We might be, according to one source.

Norse Code Podcast Episode 332: Follow the Numbers in Your Heart. Norse Code is back to discuss the training camp updates, the social justice calls by the Vikings and others, and possibly the greatest movie treatment of all time. Also featured is how to start being passive aggressive with a new roommate. And the lottery for the Norse Code Fantasy League is officially open!

GA Skol is hosting a Pick Em League and the Unofficial Open Thread Survival League, if you want to sign up go check out his fanpost.

Vikings news from other sources:

From Vikings.com: After Friday’s practice at U.S. Bank Stadium, Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer and RB Ameer Abdullah, TE Kyle Rudolph and S Anthony Harris made statements about social justice.

3 Observations: Adam Thielen Shines at Friday’s Practice at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Statement From Mark & Zygi Wilf and the Minnesota Vikings.

10 Vikings Potential X-Factors in 2020: Tajaé Sharpe.

ESPN’s Courtney Cronin joined Vikings.com’s Gabe Henderson to talk about the team’s decision to not have fans for at least the first two home games, the unique nature of this year’s training camp, and what has stood out to her as camp is set to wind down.

League News:

Consistent with the weekend thread I’ll post league news in the comments.

We come to today’s media selection: Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1
(mrs_rob requested this)

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to wash your hands, try the buffet and Welcome Aboard!

Topic of the Day: Which position group for the Vikings has you most concerned this year, offensive line, defensive line, the secondary, wide receivers, another group not listed?
