Rams receiver Robert Woods is ‘ready to get paid’

LA native’s contract expires in 2022 and team has work to do before re-signing him

Wide receiver Robert Woods signed as a free agent with his hometown Los Angeles Rams in 2017 and he has been a productive, underrated performer ever since.

Now Woods, 28, is ready to get another contract and stay with the Rams for the rest of his career. In an interview with media members, the L.A. native and USC product mentioned he is “ready to get paid.”

Woods left the Buffalo Bills after four seasons to sign with the Rams and he has played well after signing a five-year, $34 million deal in L.A. Woods had a combined 176 receptions for 2,353 yards in the past two years. So, it makes sense that he would like a big payday in the prime of his career.

Woods got some love from former NFL receiver Torrey Smith on Twitter on Thursday.

The problem — and reality — is the Rams don’t have a lot of salary cap room and they have three big contracts to deal with before next year’s free agency, starting with superstar defensive back Jalen Ramsey. He is a priority to sign ASAP.

However, fellow receiver Cooper Kupp (who is as valuable to the Rams offense as Woods is) and safety John Johnson are also prospective free agents.

So, Woods may have to show patience since he has two more seasons remaining on his contract. If he doesn’t and pushes the matter — and there has been no indication he will — things could get interesting.
