See it: Giants stand in unity, vow fight against 'systemic racism'

Prior to Friday night’s intrasquad scrimmage at MetLife Stadium, the New York Giants stood in solidarity, arm-in-arm, vowing to fight back against racial injustices and “systemic racism,” which they believe is paralyzing the country.

Not only did the Giants stand in unity, they played a powerful message on their video board to the roughly 25 people (reporters, other media) in attendance and also shared it to their social media platforms.

The video featured co-owner John Mara, tight end Evan Engram, quarterback Daniel Jones, running back Saquon Barkley, wide receiver Sterling Shepard and others.

The montage had been recorded in the hours leading up to Friday night’s scrimmage.

“We kind of came up with an idea. We came out and kind of came up with an idea of what we wanted to do. We wanted to focus on justice and change and to be able to challenge other people and showing this community that we stand with them,” Barkley told reporters. “We were able to go out there as a team and kind of get the message across. That’s not the only thing that we’re going to do. We’ve been doing things within our teams, of giving back and really focusing on our community and focusing on things that we feel like can help change what’s going on in this world. We kind of wanted to have that message to challenge other people to step up too and rise to the challenge.”

In addition to the video, the Giants have given consideration to potentially boycotting a regular season game as a form of protest.
