- Sheldrick Redwine shines in first day of training camp (Browns Wire) - A star-studded roster took to the practice fields in Berea on Friday for the first session of 2020 Cleveland Browns training camp. On a team with Odell Beckham Jr., Nick Chubb, Denzel Ward, Myles Garrett (sidelined with a hamstring), Baker Mayfield and more, the day’s standout was… Sheldrick Redwine.
- Grant Delprit going warp speed to get ready for Week 1 (Browns Zone) - When the offense finally lined up against the defense for the first time Friday, less than a month remained until the Browns’ season opener in Baltimore on Sept. 13. For safety Grant Delpit and the rest of the rookie class, the ticking of the clock will only grow louder.
- Browns waste no practice time establishing an offensive identity (cleveland.com) - Only four weeks stand between now and the season opener against Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium. There isn’t time to waste. Each rep must push Baker Mayfield and the Browns closer toward cohesive offensive success. That’s why seeing lots of handoffs (both real and fake) out of heavy formations, multiple tight ends and some deep shots felt on brand.
- Baker Mayfield has already rebounded in a big way (Beacon Journal) - Baker Mayfield opened up during his first media availability of Browns training camp when he admitted self-doubt had crept into his mind during a disappointing 2019 season. “I lost myself,” the quarterback said Friday. The good news for the Browns is Mayfield lost something else this offseason: body fat.

- NBA, Yale land the COVID testing breakthrough the NFL (and the general U.S. public) has been hoping for (Yahoo Sports) - In a significant turn of events in COVID-19 testing, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted an emergency authorization for the public to begin employing a saliva-based test expected to significantly increase the availability, turnaround time and affordability of combating the coronavirus epidemic in the United States. Developed by Yale University and jointly funded by the NBA and NBA Players Association, the testing method was granted approval by the FDA on Saturday.
- Midnight wake-up call ushered in Kenny Clark’s big day (packers.com) - Kenny Clark was tired, really tired. So tired the Packers’ fifth-year defensive tackle got home from Lambeau Field at 6 p.m. Friday and was in bed within two hours, in preparation for the team’s first practice of training camp on Saturday morning. That was until Clark’s mother, Nicole, and his agent, Doug Hendrickson, started blowing up his phone before he could get deep into his REM cycle.
- Misunderstood Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette just wants to win (ESPN) - Selfish. Not committed. Questionable work ethic and drive. Gets angry when things don’t go his way on the field. Doesn’t take football seriously. Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette has been described these ways at one point or another over the past three years. It’s obviously not the kind of reputation anyone — not just a football player entering a contract year — wants. Fournette says the reputation is undeserved and completely wrong.
- Mike McCarthy excited to add Everson Griffen: ‘He brings it every down’ (NFL.com) - In 20 games against the Green Bay Packers, Everson Griffen did plenty of damage for the Minnesota Vikings, racking up 11.5 sacks, 27 quarterback hits and 53 tackles in those contests. All but a few of them were with Mike McCarthy on the sideline for the Packers. Now, McCarthy’s excited about the prospects of coaching Griffen rather than against him after the Dallas Cowboys inked the defensive end to a one-year deal on Wednesday.
