Doug Pederson tested positive for COVID-19 - BGN
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has tested positive for COVID-19 and the team has been informed, as first reported by ESPN’s Tim McManus. This is obviously unfortunate news, as the team was scheduled to lead an hour-long walk through on Monday. Now Duce Staley will lead in his stead. The Eagles’ running backs coach has assistant head coach in his title and has been on the organization’s coaching staff dating back to 2011.

Pederson Tests Positive - Iggles Blitz
Pederson will be quarantining until he checks all the boxes in the league’s protocol. This could go as long as a couple of weeks, possibly more if there are issues. It sounds like he’s okay now, but we’ll have to see if he stays that way. Hopefully he will. As for the team, losing your head coach is never a good thing. That is an even bigger deal this year when we have a truncated offseason. Every chance for the head coach to spend time with his players and coaches has value. Pederson might be out until it is time for padded practices. That wouldn’t be ideal. At the same time, Pederson does have a veteran staff. Duce Staley will run things. He’s entering his fifth season under Pederson so Staley should be able to handle things for a week or two.

Well, there are plenty of reasons to be depressed already, but if we can snap our fingers and assume that Pederson will be OK, this is still a sober reminder of how quickly things can change with this virus. As for Pederson, I’m told he’s asymptomatic and feels completely fine. He’s been regularly tested, so this pretty much came out of nowhere. For now, the plan is for Pederson to lead the team as much as he can virtually and have assistant head coach Duce Staley take on the head-coaching duties he can’t carry out. Remember, the Eagles’ and Jaguars’ veterans are just now being cleared to enter their practice facilities—that’s right, this happened before the majority of the workforce even showed up. All of which is why anyone who tells you they know how this will go in a month or two is either intentionally misleading you, or is completely full of it.

The Eagles, under the direction of vice president of football operations and compliance Jon Ferrari, reconfigured the South Philadelphia facility over the last several weeks to comply with NFL safety measures once the players arrived. On Monday, the Eagles’ so-called IDER plan – that stands for Infectious Disease Emergency Response plan – was approved by the league, meaning the team’s plan to deal with the virus in the facility met the safety standards required by the league and the players’ association. Yet here we are. Without knowing how or where Pederson contracted the virus, it’s impossible to determine whether the safety measures are working. If nobody else in the building contracts it, they’re working. If it turns out there are additional positive tests within the building in the coming days, it’s possible that even the strictest adherence to the safety measures isn’t enough.

No deal is done until it’s done, and the deal between the NFL and the NFL Players Association regarding the parameters for pro football in a pandemic still isn’t done. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, negotiations continue regarding the precise language of the final document, with terms supposedly settled nine days ago still in play. Most significantly, the NFL does indeed want to shorten the window for opting out from the agreed duration of seven days after the finalization of the agreement revising the Collective Bargaining Agreement. If, however, the NFL Players Association agrees to that term, it will do so only in exchange for other concessions from the league.

I think Bausby could be one of the key breakout players for the Broncos on this defense next year. If he remains healthy and is able to lock down the outside corner spot opposite A.J. Bouye, that allows Callahan to be where he is best - in the slot. While that trio has a lot of question marks, that’s a pretty solid corner group if everything comes together. If Bausby’s rise to the starting lineup is derailed by injury or he struggles, the Broncos options become even more shaky to replace him. Legendary Colts offensive line coach Howard Mudd is in the intensive care unit at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center after going through a serious motorcycle accident last Wednesday, according to a page on the Caring Bridge website that is posting updates from Mudd’s wife, Shirley. Mudd has undergone an orthopedic surgery on his pelvis and was scheduled to have surgery on his spine, but doctors were forced to delay the spinal procedure, according to updates from Shirley Mudd. Several hundred college athletes have announced their intention to sit out the coming season as the coronavirus pandemic continues across the United States, and as confirmed case rates rise in almost every state. Sunday, hundreds of football players from the Pac-12 Conference, which is made up of 12 Western schools, announced they would not participate in training camps or games this fall unless their conference negotiates with them on certain demands, including the implementation of health and safety procedures, creating protections for other conference sports, and addressing racial injustice.
