10 NFL rookies who could surprise in 2020 - PFF
WR JOHN HIGHTOWER, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. Philadelphia’s receiving unit was one of the biggest disappointments of the 2019 season. They have high hopes again this year, though, with a healthy Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson, the hopeful development of JJ Arcega-Whiteside and the addition of first-round receiver Jalen Reagor. However, if recent reports out of Eagles training camp are anything to go by, former Boise State wideout John Hightower, the team’s fifth-round selection from the 2020 draft, could very well be in the mix for a chunk of targets this year. He’s not going to win many contested balls downfield, but Hightower’s sheer speed means that he can avoid those altogether on go-routes. He earned the 16th-best deep-receiving grade in college football over his final two years at Boise State while his nine deep touchdowns with at least a step of separation in that span tied for the second-most. He’s more than just a deep threat, too, as he’s also a complete route-runner. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to see him break away from Philly’s defensive backs in camp. Philadelphia got great value for Hightower in a loaded receiving class, and he’s a player who is capable of making some noise in Year 1.

John Hightower made a highlight catch for the second day in a row. Sudfeld lofted a fade pass to the rookie wide receiver and Hightower made the play with James tightly contesting. Hightower has demonstrated he’s good at tracking the ball and winning on contested catches. He’s had a good camp. Don’t know how big of an offensive role he’s going to have but he should at least provide some depth.

1) CB Sidney Jones. Why the Eagles would trade him: When the Eagles drafted Jones in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, they thought they were getting a first-round talent, but would only have to be a little patient while he recovered from a ruptured Achilles. Three injury-plagued and inconsistent years later, Jim Schwartz would probably prefer to play five other corners on the Eagles’ roster before he’d play Jones. Why some other team could have interest: Jones has inside-outside versatility, and he did flash at times last season, including two huge fourth down pass breakups that sealed wins against the Giants and Cowboys. A change of scenery could perhaps invigorate him.

Dillard, the team’s 2019 first-round pick, added 20 pounds of muscle to his athletic frame this offseason and was being talked up by coaches, but there was uncertainty in some pockets of the organization about whether he was ready to take over full time. He was up and down at camp, leaving the discussion open as to whether he would be a stabilizing force or an issue come the regular season.

Browns sign center Jon Toth - Dawgs By Nature
Toth, who is 6-foot-5 and 298 pounds, originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky. He bounced around on Philadelphia’s practice squad for two seasons before spending time on the practice squad of the New York Jets in 2018. Earlier this year he played with the D.C. Defenders of the short-lived XFL.
