Links, for game day.

It’s Thursday Night Football for the Atlanta Falcons. Read on for our preview of tonight’s clash with Carolina and more in today’s Falcoholinks.

Falcons vs. Panthers on deck

On the heels of yet another dreadful loss, the Falcons hit the road to take on the Carolina Panthers tonight. It will be the second meeting of these divisional foes this season, with Carolina getting the better of Atlanta in Week 5. The Panthers have been without star running back Christian McCaffrey for much of the year, but there is potential for him to suit up against the Falcons tonight.

Even with the Falcons at a putrid 1-6, they’ve handled the Panthers in their history, with a 32-19 advantage in the all-time series, but with the inconsistencies on Atlanta’s offense, will they be able to get the better of Carolina’s defense?

A trade for Takk?

With the NFL trade deadline looming next Tuesday, the Falcons are reportedly shopping defensive end Takkarist McKinley, and will hold him out of tonight’s game. It’s not a surprise, as McKinley has been unable to really establish himself in Atlanta due to a combination of ineffectiveness and injury. The team declined his fifth-year option earlier in the year, so don’t be shocked if McKinley is moved on or before Tuesday’s deadline.

Downers

Dirk Koetter has been unable to harness the potential of Atlanta’s offense, and nowhere is that more evident then in the Falcons’ ineffectiveness on second and third down this year. The Falcons have converted only 25% of third down tries with 10-or-more yards to go, compared to more productive totals from other distances.
