An overdue first-time stud this season.
The Falcons moved to 3-1 under interim head coach Raheem Morris, and for the second straight week they didn’t blow a lead in the fourth quarter. The Falcons head into the bye week playing their best football of the season.
The offense broke the 30-point barrier for the third time this season, ensuring a productive fantasy football output for many key figures along the way.

This article will look at things strictly from a fantasy football perspective (that means looking at nothing other than purely statistics). Here is Atlanta’s fantasy stud and fantasy dud from Week 9’s victory against the Denver Broncos

Fantasy Stud - Matt Ryan
Stat Line - 284 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, 1 interception, 3 carries, 10 rushing yards: 22.36 standard league/PPR points
Reports and reactions of Matt Ryan’s demise earlier this season seem to have been greatly exaggerated. Atlanta’s quarterback was incredibly sharp throughout the afternoon, and even with the absence of Calvin Ridley he had one of his best fantasy outings of the season.
Ryan made use of eight different receivers in this game, and he was a catalyst in helping Olamide Zaccheaus achieve the best game of his young career thus far. The llama (yes, I’m making an executive decision to make that Zaccheaus’ official nickname) was Atlanta’s leading receiver, while Brandon Powell was one of three players to catch a touchdown pass, showcasing Ryan’s ability to make use of all of his weapons when he needs to.
Ryan came into this game leading the league in passing yards. Even though he had that string of 29 consecutive drives without a passing touchdown thrown between weeks 3 and 5, he has bounced back into QB1 territory since then. He will be a strong option, with a favorable schedule against defenses who have struggled against opposing fantasy QBs, coming out of the bye.
Dud
Russell Gage - 2 catches, 11 receiving yards: 1.1 standard league points; 3.1 PPR points
In the midst of bye weeks, fantasy owners who inserted Gage into their lineups due to a lack of depth and because Ridley was on the shelf were sunk by an unproductive performance.
Gage ended up finishing sixth on the team in receiving yards in a game where Ryan was having somewhat of a field day picking apart the Denver defense. Fantasy owners watched as Zaccheaus stepped into Ridley’s role and as even Brandon Powell found the end zone.
This is a far-cry from the first two weeks of the season, where Gage registered a combined 160 receiving yards and a touchdown and where he looked like someone who was very worthy of a roster spot for when the bye weeks rolled around.
Ryan spreads the ball around too much to trust Gage in any format. The lack of a presence in the red zone (the LSU man only has one touchdown all season) surly doesn’t help matters. Gage can be dropped in all leagues.
