It’s week nine of the 2020 NFL season and the New York Jets are hosting the New England Patriots tonight at MetLife Stadium.
The Patriots come into the game reeling, losers of four straight games. The Patriots have not held a lead at any time in any game since their September 27th win over the Oakland Raiders. This is not the Patriots team we have all come to know and hate. This Patriots team has turned the ball over 15 times in seven games, ranking 31st in the NFL. This Patriots team ranks 29th in points scored, 30th in passing yards, 32nd and last in the NFL in passing touchdowns. This is an atrocious Patriots offense, worse than any we’ve seen in more than 20 years. The Patriots defense has been better. It’s still ranked in the top half of the league, though it’s nowhere near the top defense the Patriots fielded last year. The Patriots dynasty has finally ended. They are old and untalented, but they still have been much better than the Jets.
The Jets come into this game at or near the bottom of the league in just about any offensive metric you can think of. Defensively they’ve been slightly better, but still the Jets are ranked in the bottom quintile in defense in the NFL. This Jets team does absolutely nothing well. The one silver lining tonight is that the Jets may have their top three wide receivers all on the field at the same time for the first time ever. Because it’s been that kind of year, the Jets also will not have their starting quarterback. Sam Darnold will not play tonight. Joe Flacco will start in his place. We’ve all seen what that portends for the Jets offense.
It’s the New York Jets and the New England Patriots in a race to the bottom of the AFC East standings, with the Jets out front and pulling away. Please leave your comments in the section cleverly marked “comments” below. Enjoy the game everybody.
