What we’ve learned from Raiders’ receptions in first half of the season

From Darren Waller to Henry Ruggs III, there are some interesting trends

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has completed 180 passes to 14 different receivers.

As we head towards Week 10 of the season, there are some interesting — and unexpected — trends developing for the team’s receiving game.

Let’s look at some of the most numbers to see what it means for the second half of the season:

Darren Waller:
The standout tight end has 50 catches, but for just 394 yards. His per-catch average of 7.9 yards is way down from the 12.7 yards he averaged on 90 catches last season. Waller is still a big weapon, but the Raiders will need to get him down field more in the second half. His longest reception of this season is 23 yards.

Hunter Renfrow

Hunter Renfrow:
The slot receiver is the Raiders’ leader in catches among wide receivers at 27. He had 49 catches in 13 games as a rookie last year. The Raiders should aim to get Renfrow 60 catches this season.

Nelson Agholor:
The free-agent addition has 17 catches and is averaging 20.4 yards a catch with five touchdowns. He has been a dynamic player. The Raiders need to get the ball in his hands more in the second half. Good things happen when they do.

Henry Ruggs III:
The No. 12 overall draft pick in 2020 has just 10 catches in six games. Getting him more targets and more opportunities in paramount in the second half. It must be a priority.

Josh Jacobs

Josh Jacobs:
The star running back has 19 catches on 26 targets. As a rookie, he had 20 catches on 27 targets. The Raiders wanted Jacobs to have more receptions this season and it’s playing out well.

Bryan Edwards:
The third-round pick began the season as a starter, but he missed four games with an ankle injury. Expect him to get more opportunities in the second half of the season.

Foster Moreau

Foster Moreau:
The 2019 fourth-round pick has just four catches as he has returned from a torn ACL. He had 21 catches as a rookie. I’m big on Moreau’s future and believe the Raiders need to get him the ball more.

Jason Witten:
The free-agent pickup has 56 yards on 10 receptions. I don’t see the point. Yes, the future Hall of Famer is good in the locker room, he’s converted some third downs and he can block, but I’d like to see his targets go to Moreau down the stretch,
