The rising star defensive back was hurt near the end of the Jets’ first series of the game.
Damontae Kazee promises to be an essential piece of the Falcons’ defense this year, just as he was in 2018. The only big differences are that he’s playing cornerback instead of safety, and he’s currently hurt instead of healthy.
That wasn’t a graceful transition but I’m not in the mood for those. Per the team, Kazee is questionable to return to tonight’s game with a rib injury he suffered on a third down near the goal line on the Jets’ first series of the evening, when he made a tough tackle while there was a lot of contact amongst defenders. It’s not clear exactly how he got hurt, but he was hopping across the field in pain and signaling for the medical staff before exiting.
Hopefully this is cautionary more than anything and Kazee’s more than good to go a week from now, but it’s yet another reminder that preseason is a scary time. Expect to see a lot more of the team’s young cornerbacks competing for roles the rest of the way.
