Using BetOnline.AG awards, they also believe Jimmy G will win the Comeback Player of the Year
I was talking about the San Francisco 49ers on the Revenge of the Birds podcast on Monday night, and an interesting question came up. What would it take for Niners fans to turn on Kyle Shanahan this season? You can be the most bitter Atlanta Falcon fan, and still, acknowledge that Shanahan is an offensive mastermind. The tricky part is separating his play-calling from all the other aspects that go into head coaching. If the 49ers struggled again in 2018, will your perception of Shanahan change?
One Sportsbook in Vegas is riding the Niner hype train and believes that Shanahan is the favorite to win Coach of the Year in 2019. Here are the odds for the top five coaches:
Kyle Shanahan 10/1
Freddie Kitchens 11/1
Bill Belichick 12/1
Sean McVay 12/1
Andy Reid 14/1
Shanahan gets the edge over the other media darling of the offseason, the Cleveland Browns. There has to be a correlation between Betonline.ag’s Comeback Player of the Year:
Jimmy Garoppolo 4/1
Le’Veon Bell 4/1
Devonta Freeman 10/1
Cam Newton 14/1
Derrius Guice 16/1
Seeing Guice—who didn’t play a down as a rookie for Washington last season—is a leap of faith. It’s not a leap of faith to put Jimmy G on here. Like anything else, it’s about health. If Garoppolo takes care of the ball and can spread it around to a healthy group of pass-catchers, the offense will light up the scoreboard. Points=wins and wins=awards.
