Eagles fans rooting guide for Week 5

Divisional Round - Green Bay Packers v Dallas Cowboys Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images

Here are the teams you should be rooting for ... and against.

The fifth Sunday of the 2019 NFL season has arrived. Here’s a Philadelphia Eagles focused rooting guide for all the games.

EAGLES GAME

NEW YORK JETS at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: The Eagles will advance to 3-2 with a win. Root for the Eagles, of course.

NFC EAST

WASHINGTON at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: Washington pulling off an incredibly improbable win here wouldn’t do anything to change the fact they’re 0-3 in the division and 0-4 in conference play. Might as well root for them to win and ruin their draft pick. Speaking of draft picks, the Eagles own the Patriots’ 2020 fifth-round selection so a Pats loss potentially makes that selection better. Though the Pats will probably advance deep into the playoffs anyway. Root against the Patriots.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS at NEW YORK GIANTS: The Vikings are theoretically the bigger threat to the Eagles in the NFC. But is that definitely the case? Daniel Jones could very well be better than Kirk Cousins. Who really wants to see Jones get off to a 3-0 start in his first three games? And who wants to see the Eagles play a Vikings team (at Minnesota in Week 6) that could be desperate after two straight losses? Root for the Vikings.

GREEN BAY PACKERS at DALLAS COWBOYS: You’d really just hate to see the Cowboys lose their second straight game and fall to 3-2. They’d have the same record as the Eagles at that point if Philly can take care of the Jets. A Packers win would also help the Eagles’ common games and strength of victory tie-breakers. Unfortunately, there’s zero chance Dallas drops this game. Root for the Packers.

NFC TEAMS

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS at CAROLINA PANTHERS: The Panthers looked dead in the water. They were 0-2 with Cam Newton hurt. They’ve since won two games with Kyle Allen to get to 2-2. It’d be preferable for the AFC team to win here. Especially if you consider the Jags winning without Jalen Ramsey could make Jacksonville more inclined to feel like they don’t need him. Alternatively, the Jags winning could motivate them to keep Ramsey since they feel like they can go on a run. Root for the Jaguars.

ARIZONA CARDINALS at CINCINNATI BENGALS: The 0-3-1 Cards aren’t a threat in the NFC. The Bengals winning would give Washington a better shot at the No. 1 overall pick. Root for the Cardinals.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS at NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: The Saints are clearly a bigger threat to the Eagles in the NFC than the Bucs are. Root for the Buccaneers.

CHICAGO BEARS at OAKLAND RAIDERS: Root for the AFC team to beat the NFC team. Root for the Raiders.

CLEVELAND BROWNS at SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: The 49ers are only remaining undefeated team in the NFC. It’d be ideal to see that change on Monday Night Football. Root for the Browns.

DRAFT PICK WATCH

ATLANTA FALCONS at HOUSTON TEXANS: The Eagles acquired the Falcons’ 2020 sixth-round pick and Duke Riley in exchange for Tampa Bay’s 2020 seventh-round pick and Johnathan Cyprien earlier this week. That Falcons pick could be a high sixth if Atlanta continues to struggle. Also don’t want the Falcons’ head-to-head tie-breaker over Philly coming into play in the NFC standings. Root for the Texans.

WHAT’S LEFT

BUFFALO BILLS at TENNESSEE TITANS: The Eagles play the Bills in Week 8. The Eagles’ strength of victory tie-breaker will only improve if they can beat a Buffalo team with a good record. Root for the Bills.

BALTIMORE RAVENS at PITTSBURGH STEELERS: Miami owns the Steelers’ 2020 first-round draft pick. If Miami misses out on getting the No. 1 pick, they could package Pittsburgh’s pick to maybe get up to the top spot — ideally ahead of Washington. Root for the Ravens.

DENVER BRONCOS at LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: The Broncos dropping to 0-5 should make them more likely to sell off some veteran players prior to the NFL trade deadline. Chris Harris, Von Miller, and/or Emmanuel Sanders could all interest the Eagles. Root for the Chargers.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS at KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: Keep the Pats away from the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Root for the Chiefs.
