Through their first three games, the Jets have scored one offensive touchdown — and no, that’s not a typo. The Eagles defense has given up their fair share of offensive scores, but most of them have come through the air, and unfortunately for Jets fans, Luke Falk likely isn’t going to scare the Eagles into playing conservatively. After a solid debut against the Browns in which he completed 20 of 25 passes for 198 yards, Falk struggled mightily against the stout Patriots defense, completing just 12 of 22 passes and failing to reach triple digits through the air. He was also sacked five times in that game, and although the Eagles defense isn’t as good as the Patriots — and they’ve struggled to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks — this could be the week they break out.

This is a bad team right now. This is also the NFL, which means every team is dangerous. And the worst time to play a team is when they are at rock bottom. They have nothing to lose and you never know when they’ll put everything together for that one good game. The Jets are coming off a bye week. Maybe Gase was able to figure a few things out. I doubt the Jets will suddenly become a juggernaut, but they will be rested and ready to go. The Eagles have played three straight tough opponents. The Jets will be their weakest competition of the season. Let’s hope they take advantage of that.

That has allowed the Eagles to emerge as the front-runners when it comes to “aggressiveness” on offense. Since Pederson took over as coach in 2016, Philadelphia is tops in the NFL in 2-point tries with 25, six more than the next-closest team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They have converted at a 68% clip in that span, more than 20 points above the league average. It’s a similar story on fourth-down attempts. Since 2016, the Eagles have gone for it on fourth down a league-high 83 times. There’s a four-way tie for second with 67 attempts. The Eagles have allowed math to be a leading force in this realm. Working in conjunction with the analytics department, Ryan Paganetti, who has a bachelor’s in economics from Dartmouth and also serves as the team’s assistant linebackers coach, has a direct line of communication to Pederson in-game, giving recommendations before every fourth-down and extra-point attempt scenario.

The key to the Eagles’ scoring output against Green Bay could be traced to their red zone efficiency. They scored touchdowns on all four trips to the red zone and now rank eighth, reaching the end zone at a 68.8 percent rate. The Jets have one of the worst red zone defenses, allowing touchdowns on 71.4 percent of the opponents’ visits. Wentz should be able to move the ball through the air against a Jets pass defense ranked 27th in the league. But look at Aaron Rodgers last week — yards mean little if they result in field goals (or worse, no points at all) instead of touchdowns. That’s part of the reason the Eagles lost in Atlanta; they were 2 of 5 in the red zone that night. If the Eagles are successful in the red zone, they’ll win this game.

This is a different kind of challenge for the Eagles, different than going into Green Bay as a team few thought could win and pulling it out on a short week on the road. This is a game that the Eagles need to play well in to do something they haven’t done this season: Re-assert themselves at Lincoln Financial Field. “Defending our home turf, we’ve got to be better at that,” linebacker Nigel Bradham said. “We had to come back and beat Washington in the first home game and then we lost to Detroit. We need to win at home. It’s that simple. That’s our turf.” Beyond that, there are some question marks here for a team looking to hit a midseason stride.

The Eagles are way overdue to get some sacks. A unit as talented as theirs cannot carry those sack numbers forever. And even if they are not producing those sacks, the pressure will always be there. Brandon Graham ranks third in the league with 26 pressures. Fletcher Cox ranks 12th with 20 (second-most among interior defenders). Do not let the sack numbers fool you — the Eagles pass rush remains a problem. Once the coverage starts holding up, the sacks will be there. But they have never stopped bringing the pressure.

It would be much cooler if both of these teams were undefeated, but both lost after failing to score on their final drives last week. The Cowboys’ last possession didn’t just lose them the Saints game but also All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith, who exited with an ankle injury. Without him, Dallas’s blocking often comes apart. Making matters worse is that right tackle La’el Collins is hobbled with a back injury. Through four weeks, the Cowboys are the best pass-blocking team in the league by ESPN’s pass-block win-rate metric and have allowed just three sacks in four games. That’s a far cry from last year, when Prescott was sacked 56 times, the second most in the league. Cameron Fleming replaces Smith, and left guard Connor Williams can replace Collins if necessary, but it’s a tough week for Dallas to be less than 100 percent up front. Green Bay signed pass rushers Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith to replace Clay Matthews this offseason. The Smiths have combined for 7.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hits, the latter of which is tied for most of any teammate combo in football. The onus is on Prescott to be decisive getting the ball out of his hands to avoid the pass rush. On the flip side of the ball, the Cowboys defense has been stellar, but it has faced Eli Manning, Case Keenum, Josh Rosen, and Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback. Now it gets Aaron Rodgers. The Packers will likely be without no. 1 wideout Davante Adams, but this is still the biggest test yet for Dallas’s nascent defense.

Adam Stites: Washington, which is a mess. The quarterback disaster for the team was summed up by coach Jay Gruden when he answered a question about the plan for Week 5. here’s Case Keenum, who had 37 whole passing yards and an interception when he was yanked in the middle of the second quarter in Week 4. He also threw three interceptions in the week prior and is dealing with a foot injury. Rookie Dwayne Haskins replaced Keenum when he left, but threw three interceptions and looked lost. The third option is Colt McCoy, a longtime backup who was 0-2 when thrust into starting duty last year. McCoy, who missed the first part of the season with an injury, will get the call in Week 5 — against, gulp, the Patriots and their No. 1 defense. It’s a bad situation no matter what, because no quarterback fixes this. It averages 2.9 yards per rushing attempts, it’s still without left tackle Trent Williams, and the defense has allowed the second-most points in the NFL. Washington is getting worse and could easily lose to the Dolphins in Week 6.
