Riverboat Ron to DC?
Bruce Allen will reportedly get moved out of football operations, and focus on securing a new stadium for owner Dan Snyder. This is the firing that everyone wanted to see, but Snyder is reportedly ready to make several changes to the front office, along with hiring a new head coach as soon as Monday.
Several stories have been coming out that name some candidates that the Redskins are interested in for both jobs. Former Carolina Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera is considered the top option right now, but he will likely have several options including the Giants if Pat Shurmur is fired. Louis Riddick's name has come up several times for the open GM position. Here are the names mentioned for both jobs listed in the stories below.
Head Coach options:
Ron Rivera
Marv Lewis
Urban Meyer
Mike Tomlin
Gregg Williams
Eric Bieniemy
GM options:
Louis Riddick
Rick Smith
Urban Meyer
With an eye toward Monday, here is a snapshot look at the head coaching landscape and what is ahead. More coming on @NFLGameDay: https://t.co/kgh0kqvnAI

Former Panthers coach Ron Rivera has emerged as a top coaching candidate, and he has told people close to him that he expects a deal to come together quickly. It may even be in the next 48 hours. The Redskins are among the teams with real and legitimate interest, but other teams without openings yet are circling. The Giants, if they keep GM Dave Gettleman, figure to be among those interested.
Redskins president Bruce Allen is expected to exit the football operation, whether through reassignment, retirement or dismissal. That should make the job more palatable to coaching candidates. Owner Dan Snyder has been consulting with a group of people outside the organization on how to proceed, and the Redskins’ unique front-office structure could be changing, too.
Indeed & good reporting. Led off my @FoxSportsRadio segment a few minutes ago with @Redskins also having interest in Ron along w/Marvin Lewis but not sure if the former has interviewed. There may be some other candidates but those are the 2 names I've heard linked directly w/WAS. https://t.co/Slqri3keBJ

HC Candidates:
Snyder’s primary objective would be to acquire the rights to Mike Tomlin’s contract from the Steelers, league sources maintain, though he views the odds of completing such a trade to be remote at best. In the interim, he has weighed Rivera for his opening, as well as former Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and former college coach Urban Meyer, sources said.
GM Candidates:
There has been persistent chatter in league circles that Snyder has already met with multiple candidates; he denied that through Washington’s public relations department. With Allen’s future in doubt, Snyder has also done research on several personnel executives, sources said, with former Texans GM Rick Smith and former Washington exec Louis Riddick (now with ESPN) among those on his radar.
Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is hoping to announce a significant restructuring on Monday that would move Bruce Allen out of his role as the team’s top football executive, multiple people with knowledge of the situation say. https://t.co/I8TAYWa6W7

HC Candidates:
Snyder would also like to introduce a new head coach Monday, several people familiar with his plans said. A leading candidate is former Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera, one person said. But some around the team believe Rivera prefers to reunite with New York Giants General Manager Dave Gettleman — whom he worked for in Carolina — should the Giants fire Coach Pat Shurmur.
Former Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, a onetime Redskins defensive coordinator, is also being considered along with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, several people with knowledge of the situation said.
GM Candidates:
Allen’s potential replacement on the football side remains unclear. One possibility, according to at least one person familiar with the situation, is former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. That person said Meyer could be under consideration for a front office role; several other people around the team have stressed Meyer is not a candidate for the coaching job.
Multiple people said former Redskins executive and current ESPN analyst Louis Riddick is a strong candidate for the GM’s job. Riddick did not respond to requests for comment.
MORE: The reassignment of Allen and the firings of many (if not all) of the Redskins' coaching staff, will happen quickly... as will the naming of replacements, reports @CraigHoffman. https://t.co/KuqC8YcgxJ

HC Candidates:
Sources tell The Fan that the reassignment of Allen and the firings of many (if not all) of the team’s coaching staff will happen quickly, and the replacements will be named quickly as well.
Former Bengals coach Marvin Lewis and former Panthers coach Ron Rivera have been tied to the Washington coaching vacancy. Previous reports also indicated former NFL head coach and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy as high on Snyder’s wishlist as well.
GM Candidates:
The executive front is seen as more wide open. Potential candidates, such as ESPN analyst and former NFL executive Louis Riddick, have been mentioned as possibilities in the past, but as of now, there are no front runners for Allen’s job. The Redskins do have possibilities in-house, which would potentially include VP of Player Personnel Doug Williams, Director of College Scouting Kyle Smith and Senior VP of Football Operations Eric Schaffer.
As mentioned yesterday, still hearing Marvin Lewis' name. Source indicates Lewis believes he's among final candidates. Just a guess but Rivera may be top target but likely has more options. My preference, Rivera before Lewis but I like both as long as Bruce is out. #Redskins
