Jonah Williams reminds Bengals why he was a top pick

NFL: Cincinnati Bengals-Minicamp Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Jonah Williams was out for a year, but the Bengals’ offensive coordinator says he is exactly who they thought he was.

Joe Burrow has been occupying headlines and Twitter feeds in Cincinnati, and for good reason.

He did extremely well in his first scrimmage as a Bengal. But there was another former first round pick who will make his NFL debut on September 13th.

Jonah Williams will be protecting Burrow’s blind side after missing his entire rookie season due to injuries.

Williams and Michael Jordan, a guard pick three rounds after Williams in last years’ draft, are teaming up to seal off the left side.

“Both of those guys are really athletic and they can run and move in space,” said Bengals’ offensive coordinator, Brian Callahan. “They get those plays on the corner and the DBs don’t really want any part of that. I know Jonah had a nice finish on one and Mike had a nice finish on one or two.

The Bengals have high expectations for the two second-year linemen. Williams has an especially high bar, since he was Zac Taylor’s first ever draft pick.

“It’s a nice start for guy that was out for a year,” Callahan said of Williams. “He’s showing what we thought he was.”

They thought that Williams was the best offensive lineman in the draft class, a player who didn’t give up a single sack in his final year at Alabama.

If he ends up who they thought he was, then that will be a good thing for Burrow and the Bengals.
