Re-tests of Vikings players come back negative for COVID-19

Still no indication of why they came back positive in the first place

Earlier today, we passed along the news that the Minnesota Vikings were among a group of NFL teams that suddenly had a large number of players test positive for COVID-19. Now, we’re happy to report that those were, officially, a false alarm.

Close, Personal Friend of the Daily Norseman Tom Pelissero™ is reporting that 77 players across 11 NFL teams were affected by the testing, all of which were processed by the same lab in New Jersey. Those 77 players have all undergone additional tests and all have tested negative. The original tests were also retested, presumably by a different facility, and all of those came back negative as well.

Of all the teams that were affected by the test snafu, I believe the Vikings had the most members of their organization affected with 12. . .8 players, 3 staff members, and a coach. I don’t recall seeing any reports of other teams having a higher tally than that.

Thankfully, as it turns out, no members of the Vikings or any other NFL team were new additions to any reserve/COVID-19 lists this weekend. With the Cincinnati Bengals removing receiver John Ross from their list on Sunday, there are now just three players on reserve/COVID-19 list league-wide as things stand right now.

So, we had a false alarm on the COVID-19 front, folks, and that’s good news for everyone.
