Minnesota Vikings Introduce Mike Zimmer Photo by Hannah Foslien/Getty Images

A couple roster moves, and a trade!

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

There was a flurry of activity in Vikings land yesterday. The rumor mill started off the day with talk of the team being close to signing an extension with Rick Spielman, and Spielman responded first by alluding that the team is eager to get a deal put together with Dalvin Cook, then he capped his day off by putting a trade together with the Raiders to bring in DT P.J. Hall. Hall filled a significant vacancy that was created suddenly when Michael Pierce decided to opt out of the 2020 season. The team finished the busy day by moving a couple guys off of the Covid reserve list, and then placing Ben Gedeon on the PUP list. Hey, at least we have football things to talk about, it seems like it’s been forever.

For a poll question today, I’d like to see where the DNOT gauge is sitting with regards to the Vikings GM, Rick Spielman, who is likely going to be staying here. I’ll save my comments for.......the comments, but I will say that I’m on the side of thinking the team should keep Rick around. I know there are opinions on both sides, and I also know that sometimes one side is more vocal than another, and it causes people to think the group is larger than it actually is. Is that the case here? Let’s find out, shall we?

Around the DN since our last open thread:

The Vikings placed Ben Gedeon on the PUP list, per Chris.
The Vikings activated Barr and Odenigbo from the Covid-19 list.
Eric has details on the Vikings/Raiders trade that brought P.J. Hall to Minnesota.

Other Vikings/NFL news, and random oddities and annoyances:

It must be backwards day. From CBS News, a mountain rescue crew carried a St. Bernard off of England’s highest peak. Do you think they carried little barrels of water around their neck?
NFL.com reported that the NFL and NFLPA have resolved all issues for 2020 CBA changes.
FoxSports gives us a list of all restrictions and punishments listed under the League’s Covid-19 rules.
Players must decide by Thursday whether to opt out of the 2020 season. Devin McCourty is not a fan of that newly imposed deadline, per the NY Post. Ummmmm, let’s see a show of hands. How many of you were approached by your employer and given the option of sitting out for a year and being paid a couple hundred grand to do so? No one? Huh, me either. I don’t normally take the league’s side, and I’m not doing so here, but I can’t sympathize much with McCourty, either.

We come to today’s media selection:

Here’s a little something to get you excited about the season, just in case we have one. Enjoy!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t wash your hands, touch each other’s faces often, and try the finger food.
