Dominant Lorenzo Carter strips the ball from Jones
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Daniel Jones was wearing his red uniform and could not be hit by defenders during Friday night’s New York Giants Blue-White Scrimmage. That, though, didn’t stop Jones’ penchant for fumbling from showing up again.
With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Lorenzo Carter flew past Cameron Fleming and, with an Osi Umenyiora-like swipe, swatted the ball out of Jones’ grasp. The play, incorrectly, was ruled a sack only as Jones was ruled to be “down,” but it was a clear sack fumble.
Jones led the NFL in fumbles last season with 18.
The Giants scored only three points in the five drives Jones led, with Graham Gano making a 47-yard field goal.
Jones said after the game that “there’s opportunities to improve.” Head coach Joe Judge said that despite the fumble and the lack of points he thought Jones “had a good night overall.’
All in all, Jones did not have a great night. He played five series, and the only points the offense generated with him on the field came via a 47-yard Graham Gano field goal.
